10J1

Year 10 end of term chemistry exam-January 2017.
In January, you will be sitting an exam which will assess all of the
chemistry topics you have studied so far. The exam will closely
match the conditions you will experience in the real GCSE exams.
The paper will last for one hour, and will be out of 100 marks. This
will be a valuable tool for you to practice exam technique and
understand where your strengths and weaknesses are. Prepare well
of this exam so that the feedback you will receive will be useful to
you!
The following topics will be tested:

States of matter
Separating mixtures
Atomic structure
The periodic table
Ionic bonding
Covalent bonding
Metallic bonding

Some of these topics were studied in Y9 (Periodic table, solids,
liquids and gases, distillation, chromatography, evaporation and
crystallisation.
Useful resources to help you revise for this exam can be found
here:

History of the atom
Set: Tuesday 20th September
Due: Monday 26th September

Create a Facebook page for one of the scientists/groups of scientists below.

Dmitri Mendeleev
Democritus
John Dalton
JJ Thompson
Ernest Rutherford
Neils Bohr
Geiger & Marsden

You can use the templates  provided.

In your work, you should include the following:
Basic facts about the scientist/s: Date of birth, place of birth, a picture for the information sheet,
Facebook wall: include information about their contribution to the periodic table or structure of the
atom.
The scientific facts need to be correct, but feel free to use your creativity with the rest.
If they are AMAZINGLY good and end up on the wall on display, there will be LOCs up for grabs.

Separating techniques:
Set: Tuesday 13th September
Due: Monday 19th September

Copy and complete the table to show how these different separation techniques can be used to
separate mixtures. You can print and fill in the table if you wish, remember to glue it in your book!
